THE COLLEGE OF NEW
JERSEY
Information Management Department
To send a message to a discussion list, simply compose the message just like any other e-mail message. The "To:" field should contain the listname@list.TCNJ.EDU (e.g. TCNJUNIX-L@list.TCNJ.EDU). Remember, messages sent to the list are reflected to all members of the list. If you want to respond to an individual directly, remember to just type in their e-mail address in the "To:" field.
List commands allow you to get information about the lists on the server and tell the list server to perform certain functions.
All commands should be sent to listproc@list.tcnj.edu NOT the list itself! Responses to your commands are sent back to you as e-mail. It may take a little time to receive a response if the server is busy.
When sending a e-mail message with list commands, do not include anything in the Subject line and only include list commands in the message body. Delete any signatures your mailer appends.
The listpassword used in the commands below refers to the password you selected when you requested your list. You may only send these commands to the lists you own. Each command must be contained on a single line in the message body. DO NOT let your e-mail client wrap the line. You can send multiple requests in a single e-mail by putting each command on a separate line. You will get back a separate e-mail response for each command.
In addtion to these commands, you may want to review the List User Commands which you can also use to review various aspects of your lists.
